It does make you feel a little overwhelmed when you start, but really you can just do literally anything with your characters and get through it. You will only be stuck with their starting weapon and gear until you reach the town. The classes the game make you choose from at character creation don't matter at all, you can still fully customise attributes, abilities, skills, and talents. You can focus on upgrading the skills they come with and still be okay. The named companions you will be able to recruit in the first town are: Madora (melee tanky), Jahan (air/water mage), Bairdotr (ranged bow), and Wolgraff (melee rogue). You can put fewer points into more skills for versatility/hybrid classes, or specialize. Talents should also be used as you see fit/as you learn more about the game. Mage (of any kind): Your favourite magic schools (usually two), staves/dual wands cap int, rest into speed.ĭefense, Personality, Craftsmanship and Nasty Deeds abilities are helpful, but not required to progress through the game. Ranged: Expert marksman, bow/crossbow cap dex, rest into per. Melee (rogue): Scoundrel, dual wielding, dagger only cap dex, rest into per. Melee (tanky): Man-at-arms, single-handed (if 1h+shield)/two-handed/dual wielding (if no shield) cap str, rest into con. As much as I can't just up and say "do x" or "do y", these should work pretty well on normal difficulty. Allow me to try and give you a simpler insight on the game's most basic builds. His guide, as good as it is, is full on min/max and not something I would reccomend for starting players. I promise you, it's not a horrible grindfest of tedium and boredom.
